Burn Regulations

Currently, there is NO BURN BAN

KVFR is no longer requiring burn permits for recreational burning or yard waste burns. Please see the regulations below for where you live. If you light a fire, it is your responsibility to do so legally and safely, to ensure the fire does not become out of control.

City of Ellensburg/Urban Growth Area:

• Recreational fires ONLY limited to 3’ x 3’ x 2’ and must be more than 25 feet away from a structure. Firewood or charcoal briquettes only – no construction debris or yard waste (leaves, grass, brush)

• Agriculture burns – some ditchlines inside the city serve agricultural purposes and may be burned.

• Ceremonial fires – flags etc…

Outside the City of Ellensburg/Urban Growth Area:

• Organic material (leaves, grass, brush, yard trimmings, orchard pruning, tumbleweeds).

• Organic material along fence lines and irrigation ditches.

• Field burns less than 1 acre individually or cumulatively.

Illegal/Prohibited burning:

• Burn barrels

• Non-organic materials – including construction debris, rubber, metal, asphalt, plastics, garbage.

• No debris or yard waste burning inside the City and urban growth areas.

• Always follow burn ban regulations.

Burning Best Practices/Safety:

• Have enough water/equipment on site to extinguish any fire.

• Monitor the fire from ignition to extinguishment. Never leave the fire unattended.

• Monitor the wind, and consider not burning if it is greater than 15mph.

• Consider talking to your neighbor before you burn.
