KVFR focuses on preventing fires and injuries in the community and reducing the impact of emergencies. KVFR provides the City of Ellensburg with a Fire Code Official through a contract that includes plan review, fire code inspections, fire investigations, and code consultation for all construction projects and business occupancies inside the city limits.
Each year, KVFR staff inspects all commercial occupancies with public and/or employee access inside the city limits. Additionally, KVFR flow tests fire hydrants on a seven-year rotation, thereby insuring operational readiness and adequate fire flows in all areas of the city. All 840 fire hydrants in the city are electronically mapped for responders.
In 2020, KVFR staff will conduct 1,568 occupancy inspections. During an inspection, personnel review occupancy pre-plans for response, check for safety violations, and are available to discuss life safety concerns and to address questions community members have regarding KVFR’s services. The Fire Prevention Captain oversees the program in which all KVFR operations staff members participate. Contact Captain Delvo by phone at 509-933-7241 or by email prevention@kvfr.org
